In our business, we often hear it said that, “Our drivers are our most valuable asset”. Catchy, but not realistic. It takes an entire team, and that’s exactly the spirit we foster here at Stokes Trucking. Let’s at least be honest, and say right here that we don’t have the perfect driving job. We have our imperfections.

On the other hand, consider the following; First and foremost, we respect our drivers. Every individual working in our office, who does any dispatching, also has many years driving experience, and they continue to drive on occasion. So we understand what its like out there. We never ask a driver to do the impossible. For every load we dispatch, we make sure there is adequate time for safe, on-time delivery. Our equipment, and the maintenance of our equipment, is second to none. Our drivers almost never layover on the road, with the very rare exceptions of weather delays, or mechanical breakdowns. In the very rare instances when one of our drivers does layover, for any reason, we pay for it. It’s that simple. Any of our drivers will verify that. We believe our drivers should layover at home, not on the road. When combined, our pay and benefits equal any available. The majority of our freight is one-pick, one-stop, no-touch. Some loads are drop-and-hook. When handling is required, we pay it. It’s that simple. We pay our drivers if they have to chain-up in winter. We pay them if they have extended delays at shipping docks for no fault of their own. We just don’t believe in having people work for us for nothing. We pay our drivers mileage right off the odometer. Add the facts that our drivers get plenty of miles, while being home weekly or twice weekly, and you begin to understand why so many of our drivers have been with us for many years.
